Ahas Maligawa - Dimbulagala

Dimbulagala Ahas Maligawa (Air Temple) is next to Iththepechchagoda Wewa and is located in polonnaruwa dimbulagala devision in North Central, Sri Lanka.
It's great to be there and it took us nearly one hour to reached there.

After long journey through the forest we reached to the peak was covered by clouds they hadn’t seen the palace. When we were returning however, the clouds had cleared and we spotted the king’s hiding place, which was then named Ahas Maligawa.

It was tired to go there but there was cool climate with big scale of tries.
The name Ahas Maligawa itself shows how much the height is.The top of the mountain feel us strange background with wide range of space. It is not easy to express how it is but these galleries showcase some far.
Be a traveler not a tourist. It allows you to gain huge expression and value to the breath taking memories which you can't never touch.

Warana Temple

It’s another day and another travelling to one of the most ancient temple and area in Sri lanka..
Mangalathiriya is the village that is age-old, artistic  is situated in gampaha district 15 minutes far-away from nittambuwa town closed to Kandy – Colombo road.Mangala viharaya is the former name of warana viharaya.
Warana, the word was created by a combination of “waa” “arana” in Sinhala oral language.
Warana viharaya is very beautiful temple with huge peaks, boulders and caves.
Folklores say that there was huge bird which is from Himalaya was living there and a bird was used to eat fishes on there peak called Idam-gala.The shouting of bird in the night is not good one for villagers and it was cloying. Then high priest of the temple took measures to escape this bird by stanzing. It is wonderful story which is very famous here.
The village is very valued itself with epigraphs, stelas, inscriptions, temporalities etc.

Reminiscences of Warana

  • In Era of King Valagamba this was a safe area(103-89)

Heritage Of Sri Lanka

Jump To Great Building Era

Anuradhapura the city of ancient and great architectural value that has earned fame for its well-preserved ruins of ancient Lankan civilization.Founded in the fourth century B.C.E., Anuradhapura served as of the capital of the Anuradhapura Kingdom until the beginning of the eleventh century C.E. During that period, the city enjoyed stability constituting one of the most durable centers of political power and urban life in South Asia. Considered sacred to the Buddhist world, monasteries covering an area of over sixteen square miles (40 km²) surround the ancient city.
Anuradhapura stands out as a major force in the development and advancement of Buddhism in South East Asia. The UNESCO designation names the site the "Sacred City of Anuradhapura" to acknowledge its sacred function. Anuradhapura hosted both Hindu and Buddhist holy people and congregations. Buddhist monasteries covering over sixteen square miles surrounded the city.

Discovery of Ruins

The ruins consist of three classes of buildings: dagobas, monastic buildings, and pokunas. The dagobas, bell-shaped masses of masonry, vary from a few feet to over 1100 ft (340 m) in circumference. Some of them contain enough masonry to build a town for twenty-five thousand inhabitants. Remains of the monastic buildings lay in every direction in the shape of raised stone platforms, foundations, and stone pillars. The Brazen Palace, erected by King Dutugamunu about 164 B.C.E., constitutes the most famous. The pokunas, bathing-tanks or tanks for the supply of drinking water, lay scattered throughout the jungle. The city also contains a sacred Bo-Tree, dating to the year 245 B.C.E. The government extended the railway from Kurunegala to Anuradhapura in 1905.
